Eyelid Surgery

There are three procedures that can be done to the eyelid:

1. Removing excess skin from the upper lids: This surgery takes about an hour, and recuperation takes about seven days, after which you resume your normal activities. However, you should wait three weeks before returning a full athletic schedule, because the bouncing and straining can lead to swelling in the face and can precipitate bleeding. The scar in this procedure falls in the folds of the upper eyelid, so it can hardly be seen.

2. Removing fat, or bags, from under the eyes: This surgery also takes about an hour. It is a very common, precise and successful operation that is done on people of all ages, from teenagers who have a family history of bags under the eyes to middle-aged people who don't want to constantly look tired and sad. This inconspicuous scar is usually in the lower eyelid, right underneath the eyelashes, made from one end of the eye to the other.

3. Removing wrinkles from the lower eyelids: Dr. Glassman, for one, believes that there is a real limitation regarding the removal of wrinkles under and around the eyes-if a surgeon pulls on the skin too tightly to try to remove every wrinkle, he can distort the shape of the eyes. So, in most cases, the lines will be decreased, but they won't be completely erased. This is an added argument for staying out of the sun (the major cause of most eye wrinkles) and for moisturizing the skin around the eyes.

If wrinkles around the eyes are your problem, you might also consider two other options in plastic surgery-the use of collagen injections or a chemical peel
