Breast Surgery

There are three types of plastic surgery for breasts - breast augmentation (enlargement), breast reduction and the lifting of the breast.

1. Breast augmentation: The average woman who wants this operation is in her thirties, has had two children and has suffered some loss of volume of her breasts as a result of those pregnancies. Women see this change right away-their bathing suits and bras don't fit, the breasts don't stand up anymore, and they have a sunken, hollowed appearance.

2. Breast reduction: Having very large breasts can cause problems for some women. They may develop back problems later in life (even a curvature of the spine); some develop grooves in their shoulders as a result of the pulling of bra straps; some get rashes urider their breasts where perspiration on the skin causes irritation; and large breasts can be painful to carry around. Thus breast reduction for women who wear a DD cup and want to be smaller (it is not recommended for a woman who wants to go from a B cup to an A cup) is a very real option.

3. Breast lifting: To lift the breast, the surgeon will remove the excess skin of the breast and relocate the nipple and areola higher on your chest. There is definite visible scarring from this surgery. For many women, this presents a difficult decision-even though their breasts hang down low and they find this unattractive, having upright breasts with visible scars may not be a satisfactory alternative.
