Lemon Essential OilBotanical Name: Citrus limon Background/Origin: The Lemon Tree is from the Rutaceae family and is found throughout the Mediterranean. The oil is obtained by expression of the outer part of the lemon rind. Lemon juice was used by Seamen when on long journeys at sea to help prevent scurvy. It is also frequently used in cooking, and can be found in many cold and flu remedies. How Lemon is extracted: Cold Pressed/Expressed Description: The lemon tree, which has white-pink flowers and bright yellow fruit, is cultivated in most Mediterranean countreis, Brazil, USA, Argentina, Israel and Africa. The pale yellow oil is expressed from the rind and peel of the fruit and has classically been used in perfuem for its intense, sharp, citrus-freash aroma. The essence becomes cloudy, and deteriorates over time, if not preoperly stored. Color: Yellow Property: Antiseptic, astringent, carminative, anti-rheumatic, diuretic, detoxifying, disinfectant, cleansing. Therapeutic Effects: Lemon is highly antiseptic and astringent, and so is naturally used for skin compliants including boils, warts and veruccas. Also good for lowering blood pressure, colds, digestive problems, fever and gallstones. Uses of Lemon essential oil: Inhalation, baths and massage. Lemon, as with most citrus oils, is a good cleanser inside and out. Evaporated in a fragrancer it will help colds and act as an insct repellant.
