Lavender Essential Oil

Botanical Name: Lavendula officinalis

Background/Origin: Lavender is found throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, but it is mainly cultivated in France, UK and Italy. The best quality of Lavender is found in high altitudes. Lavender has been associated with bathing for many years, and was very popular with the Romans. Lavender is one of the most versatile and gentle oils, and is one of the very few oils that may, in certain circumstances, be used neat (without dilution).

How Lavender is extracted: Steam Distilled

Description: A shrubby plant with woody branches and long narrow leaves, it has purple-blue flowers on long spikes. After cutting, the plants are dried and steam distilled. The essential oil is clear to pale yellow in colour with a strong aroma.

Color: Clear with a Tinge of Yellow

Property: Antiseptic, analgesic, antispasmodic, anti-rheumatic, anti-viral, antibiotic, anti-depressant, decongestant, disinfectant, mild diuretic, carminative, sedative.

Uses of Lavender essential oil: Inhalation, baths, room spray, massage and most other uses. Use a cold compress or place a few drops in boiling water and inhale for headaches and migraine. A warm towel wrap will soothe nervous exhaustion. A late-night lavender bath will combat sleepiness.

Therapeutic Effects of using Lavender: Its sedative and tonic effects make lavender a great balancer of the nervous and emotional systems. Excellent for migraines. As an antiseptic it can be used for many skin conditions and infections of the lungs, digestion and urinary tract. Extraordinarily versatile.

Safety & Precaution Instructions: Avoid if you have problems with epilepsy or pregnant, can overexcite the nervous system.
