Biotin and Hair Loss


Hair loss occurs when the diet is inadequate in the B vitamins - especially B6, biotin, inositol and folic acid; and the minerals magnesium, sulfur and zinc. A male hormone called dihydrotestosterone, which is converted from testosterone, binds to sites on hair follicles and appears to make the follicles go into their "resting" phase sooner, which in turn starts to cause the hairs produced by those follicles to become thinner and thinner with each growth cycle. Heavy intake of vitamin supplements, in some cases, have resulted in stimulating hair growth. Men deficient in vitamin B6 often lose their hair. When they are deficient in folic acid, some men became completely bald. As in case of animals, when normal intake of theses vitamins were restored, the hair also returned in most instances. Biotin is a proven hair growth vitamin and a preventative to excessive hair loss. It appears to metabolise fatty acids. Fatty acids are a valuable growth factor in numerous processes in the body including the hair. Biotin is also seen as an aid in preventing hair turning grey. Biotin is found in egg yolks. Raw egg whites actually hinder effectiveness, but when the albumen is cooked, the culprit - a substance called avidin is destroyed by heat. Biotin is also present in liver, milk, yeast and kidney.

Balding men might find that a Biotin supplement may keep their hair longer. Good food sources of biotin include brewer's yeast, brown rice, bulgur, green peas, lentils, oats, soybeans, sunflower seeds, and walnuts. Estrogen-deficiency alopecia generally starts around menopause. Because estrogen levels start to fall before periods stop, this form of female hair loss can be the first sign of approaching menopause. But sometimes the alopecia does begin until a few months or even a few years after menstruation has ended. Those people who belong to blood group A cannot absorb vitamin Bs. So if you add biotin to your it will definitely reduce your hair loss and there are no side effects due to consumption of biotin. Biotin and hair loss are closely related. People who are victims of heartburn, acid reflux or GERD may absorb less biotin because of intake of antacids and therefore they are more likely to suffer from hair loss. So for better absorption and incorporation of biotin you must avoid medicines like antacids. Biotin helps in metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins and helps in maintaining steady blood sugar. So, it is good for the persons suffering with Diabetes. Diabetes is a major disease across the globe and affects several men and women.
