It belongs to the Mytaceae family and there are between 300-500 species of Eucalyptus and it is one of the tallest trees known. The name "Eucalyptus" comes from the Greek word "Eucalyptos" meaning "a well and a lid". The leathery leaves of the tree have many glands containing volatile oil. The native Aborigines recognised the healing properties of the Eucalyptus tree and used the "kino" leaves to bind wounds.
