Cymbalta Medication Info - Learn about Cymbalta Antidepressant Side Effects

What is Cymbalta?

Cymbalta is a drug which is very useful such as it is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD), Cymbalta may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. Cymbalta is used to treat depression; this medicine is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). Cymbalta is a relatively new drug that more and more people are trying with great success!  It's not an understatement to say that Cymbalta is capable of changing the lives of a great many people. Cymbalta (duloxetine) is the first drug (a SNRI) in Denmark and is used for treatment of urinary incontinence. (SUI) for women, when conservative therapy is inefficient.

What are the Side Effects of Cymbalta

Like other medicines, the following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with Cymbalta medicine.

  • Disturbances of the gut such as nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting or indigestion
  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anxiety
  • Dizziness
  • Sleepiness
  • Tremor
  • Blurred vision
  • Increased sweating
  • Itching
  • Feeling of weakness
  • Headache

If you experience any of the following less serious side effects, continue taking Cymbalta and talk to your doctor :

  • weakness;
  • changes in appetite or weight;
  • nervousness

Before taking Cymbalta, tell your doctor if you

  • have liver disease;
  • have kidney disease;
  • narrow angle glaucoma;
  • have diabetes;
  • drink alcohol regularly;
  • have high blood pressure;
  • suffer from seizures; or
  • suffer from mania or have suicidal thoughts.

What to do if you miss a dose of Cymbalta ?

If you miss a dose of Cymbalta , take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I take Cymbalta?

  1. Take Cymbalta exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
  2. Take each dose with water.
  3. Cymbalta capsules should be swallowed whole and should not be chewed or crushed, nor should the contents be sprinkled on food or mixed with liquids.
  4. Cymbalta may be taken with or without food.
  5. Try to take Cymbalta at the same time each day.
  6. Do not stop taking Cymbalta without first talking to your doctor. It may take several weeks before you start feeling better.
  7. It is important to take Cymbalta regularly to get the most benefit.
  8. Your doctor may want to perform tests or schedule appointments to monitor your treatment with Cymbalta.

Warnings and precautions before taking Cymbalta

  • Cymbalta must not be taken at the same time as, or within 14 days of taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressant.
  • This medicine must not be used during pregnancy as it may be harmful to the unborn child. Seek medical advice from your doctor.
  • Also, do not take Cymbalta if you are taking thioridazine (Mellaril). Dangerous, even fatal irregular heartbeats may occur if these medicines are taken together. You must wait 5 weeks after stopping Cymbalta before taking thioridazine (Mellaril).
  • Talk with your physician or pharmacist if you are taking other medications.
  • Breast Feeding - Mothers who are taking Cymbalta and who wish to breast-feed should discuss this with their doctor.
  • The safety and efficay of this medicine have not been studied in children and adolescents, hence it is not recommended for use in these age groups.

How to Store Cymbalta

  • Store Cymbalta at room temperature in a dry place.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
