Cellulite Symptoms Causes

Cellulite is a skin alteration often described as an ‘orange peel,' ‘mattress,' or ‘dimpling' appearance on the thighs, buttocks and sometimes lower abdomen of otherwise healthy women. Cellulite is a special kind of fat. It is fat that is located just underneath the skin. In men, this fat is no problem and is smoothly dispersed, however in women this fat builds and begins to form bumps and bulges through the skin. Cellulite consists of fatty tissues which develops dimpled and wrinkled skin on the thighs, buttocks and hips. Cellulite influences generally post-adolescent females due to the existence of females hormones like estrogen and progesterone and subsequently, due to the female's mesh such as fibrous septae formations. Cellulite is nothing but fat cells being trapped by fibers that have formed a network. These fibers are constantly cleansed by body fluids and poor circulation retards this cleansing process. Cellulite symptoms include feeling tightness and heaviness in legs. Cause of cellulite thigh appearance is a cosmetic defect that affects millions of women of all ages and sizes. Cellulite problems commonly appear on the stomach, hips, buttocks and other areas of the body.

In some cases, cigarette smoking also increases the risk of cellulite as it includes free radicals that destroys veins and the capillary walls and develops inflammation and leakage. This also decreases the microcirculation and compresses the small blood vessels. Cellulite treatment is as varied as it can get. Water, suction, laser, massage and now there is the electric muscle stimulation. Electric currents passing through pads placed on the body cause the muscles to contract and relax alternatively. While topical cellulite remedies can be very beneficial, they have little effect if used alone. Creams cannot actually penetrate the dermis where much of the damage is. The reason cellulite is rarely seen in men is because the epidermis, dermis and uppermost part of the subcutaneous tissue is different in males. Men have thicker epidermis and dermis tissue layers in the thighs and buttocks. Creams and lotions generally reach only the epidermis, or top layer of skin. Many cellulite treatments are largely unsuccessful because they target only the external appearance of cellulite. It is important to have a healthy diet and exercise regularly to prevent the buildup of cellulite.
