Benzoin Essential Oil


Botanical Name of Benzoin Essential Oil : Styrax tonkinensis

Background/Origin of Benzoin Essential Oil : Benzoin is a member of the Styraceae family and comes from trees which are native to Java, Sumatra, China and Thailand. Benzoin Essential Oil is a resinoid; the bark of the tree is cut and the resin is collected in the form of solid pieces. The resin is then processed to form a liquid.

How Benzoin is extracted: Solvent Extracted

Description of Benzoin Essential Oil

The benzoin tree is cultivated in Borneo, Java, Malaysia, Sumatra and Thailand. Like the rubber tree, its gum is taken from the bark by making a deep incision in the trunk. The gum is dark, with reddish-brown colored streaks. These pigments contain the fatty oils which exude a delicious aroma similar to vanilla.

Color of Benzoin Essential Oil : Golden Brown

Uses of Benzoin essential oil: Inhalation, massage and in cough medicines. This is an energizing oil which can be used in one of two forms: simple tincture of compound, with the former being not so toxic and preferable for skin conditions.

Therapeutic Effects of using benzoin: Valuable for treating urinary infections, it has a warming, relaxing, action suitable for respiratory conditons such as bronchitis, coughs and colds. Also effetive for relieving skin conditions and for gout.

Safety & Precaution Instructions: Excessive use can cause drowsiness.
