Ashermans Syndrome
Ashermans syndrome is also known as uterine synechiae , presents a condition characterized by the presence of scars within the uterine cavity. Ashermans syndrome is the presence of intrauterine adhesions that typically occur as a result of scar formation after uterine surgery, especially after a dilatation and curettage.
Causes of Ashermans syndrome
Here the list of some of the causes of Ashermans syndrome
- surgical scraping
- cleaning of the uterine wall
- sporadic inflammation of the mucous membrane lining the uterus
- endometritis caused by tuberculosis or certain other infectious diseases.
Symptom of Ashermans syndrome
Here are the list of symptom of Ashermans syndrome :
- No menstrual flow (amenorrhea) or decreased menstrual flow
- Infertility
- Recurrent miscarriages
Treatment of Ashermans syndrome
In general, treatments for Ashermans syndromes include the following:
- Operative hysteroscopy is used for visual inspection of the uterine cavity and dissection of scar tissue.
- Surgical treatment includes cutting and removing adhesions or scar tissue within the uterine cavity.
- Antibiotic treatment may be necessary if infection is identified.
