Chamomile Essential OilGerman ChamomileBotanical Name: Matricaria chamomilla Background/Origin: There are 3 types of Chamomile Essential Oil - Roman, German/Blue and Moroccan. Chamomile comes from the Compositae family. The oil is produced by distilling the flowers. The reason that German Chamomile is blue in colour is because it contains a higher percentage of azulene. Chamomile is a very gentle oil and can be used on children and elderly people. How Chamomile is extracted: Steam Distilled Description: Chamomile species grow throughout Europe, North Africa and are often found growing wild. They have fine, feathery leaves with tiny white or yellow-centered daisy-like flowers. The pale blue oil is extracted from the flower and has a slightly apple fragrance which blends well with rose, geranium and lavender. Color: Deep Blue Property: Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, soothing, carminative, antiseptic, emmenagogue. Uses of Chamomile essential oil: Headaches, earache, teething/toothache, diarrhoea, flatulence, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, gastritis, inflammation, skin conditions; dermatitis, psoriasis, burns, eczema. Muscular aches/pains, rheumatism, arthritis, irregular periods, painful periods, PMT, menopause. Chamomile is also often used in Shampoos to help lighten blonde or fair hair. Therapeutic Effects of using Chamomile: Particularly noted for its anti inflammitory and seditave properties, it is excellentfor childhood ailments (whether in children or adults) form peevishness to earache. Also used for allergies, anamia, bursn, dermatitis, diarrhoea, fever, indigestion, insomnia, menstrual and menopausal problems, rheumatism, toothache and ulcers.
